After all the hassle and problems I face as a Calligrapher trying to source tools and supplies here in India, I finally thought that I will share some of my sources. I often get the question on my Instagram about the tools and where to get them in India.

Basically, there are so many tools you can use depending on what genre of calligraphy you want to do. For me, I am into the textura quadrata (black letterings as it is known), traditional Spencerian and Copperplate scripts and modern calligraphy apart from abstract forms. My tools range from the pointed tip dip pen to the broad markers. I can say that you can almost use anything to write the black letter as long as it has a nice flat surface. When it comes to the traditional English round hand style it’s a bit tricky. You have to have the right tool.

I have prepared a list of tools that will help you get started and which are here in India. Let me know what you think of the list and how you progress with the art. Let me know if there are any particular theme that you want me to cover in the next post.

Happy Writing!
Richard
